What's a Shadowverse Extra Championship Event?

The road to Shadowverse's World Grand Prix has different paths leading to it. The game's largest tournament gathers the best players from around the world to crown a World Champion. One of those paths is the Extra Championship circuit, where the winner earns a spot at the World Final.

The circuit consists of in-person tournaments held across several Japanese cities. In 2026, the stops are Miyagi, Aichi, Osaka, Kanagawa, and Fukuoka.

A Spot in the World Grand Prix

The winner of each Extra Championship earns an invitation to the World Grand Prix, where they can compete for the title of World Champion and a top prize of up to 100,000,000 JPY.

Players who finish 2nd through 9th earn a spot at the Japan Wildcard Qualifier, where they'll have one last chance to secure a seat at the World Final.

Rules and Eligibility

Extra Championships are in-person events held in Japan, and competitors must reside in the country. Registration is first come, first served, with events capped at between 1,000 and 2,500 players depending on the location. Entry requires a paid ticket, which typically costs 3,000 JPY. For an additional 3,000 JPY, players can get a special playmat featuring artwork exclusive to that location.

Decks must be submitted in advance, and players usually compete using their own devices. The tournament rules support both Swiss and single-elimination formats, while the exact match format is specified for each event.

Prizes

For the 2026 season, the winner of an Extra Championship also earns a spot in the RAGE Shadowverse Japan Championship and the BO3 Showdown. They also get a shiny, prestigious in-game flair that will surely intimidate their opponents. The runner-up gets one as well.
