Chaos Rising: Cards We’re Excited About

Pokémon TCG’s new set, Chaos Rising, releases on May 22. It features a key Pokémon from the latest Pokémon Z-A game, Mega Floette, alongside Mega Greninja, Mega Pyroar, and Mega Dragalge. That is plenty of big names for a modest 122-card set, and these are the cards we’re keeping an eye on.

Mega Greninja ex one of them. Its Mortal Shuriken ability places 6 damage counters while Greninja is in the Active Spot, giving Water decks a way to pick off key targets.** Ninja Spinner** can also hit harder by returning a Water Energy attached to it back to your hand.

Mortal Shuriken requires you to discard a Water Energy, but the new Big Catch Net gives Water decks a way to recycle those resources. The Item lets you shuffle up to 3 Water Pokémon and up to 3 Basic Water Energy cards from your discard pile back into your deck.

Moving away from Water, Magnet Metal Energy giving Metal Pokémon free retreat feels quietly powerful. Being a Special Energy may restrict it from working with some cards, but free retreat is always welcome.

The Stadium Prism Tower, meanwhile, gives both players a way to discard 2 cards and draw 1 once per turn, which could make it a real engine card for decks that benefit from filling the discard pile.

Will the set be enough to slow down Dragapult ex? We’ll know soon, in just two days.
